What each platform charges

Rates checked August 2026

Fees change, sometimes quietly. Every rate below links to the platform's own fee page so you can confirm before pricing something where a point or two matters.

Fees by platform, with worked examples

Every figure below assumes no separate shipping charge, so you can read the effective rate cleanly. Add buyer-paid shipping in the calculator above for your real numbers, since most platforms charge fees on that too.

eBay fee calculator

eBay charges a final value fee of 13.6 percent on most categories, calculated on the item price plus any shipping the buyer paid, plus a per-order fee of 30 cents on orders up to 10 dollars or 40 cents above that. Payment processing is already inside that percentage, so there is nothing further to add.

Sale priceFeesYou keepEffective rate
$10.00$1.66$8.3416.6%
$25.00$3.80$21.2015.2%
$50.00$7.20$42.8014.4%
$100.00$14.00$86.0014.0%
$250.00$34.40$215.6013.8%

Category rates vary more on eBay than anywhere else. Books and music run 15.3 percent, guitars about 6.7 percent, and authenticated sneakers over 150 dollars drop to 8 percent with no per-order fee. Check your category before pricing anything where the difference matters.

Mercari fee calculator

Mercari takes a flat 10 percent of the item price plus buyer-paid shipping. There are no listing fees and no separate seller payment processing charge, which was removed in 2025.

Sale priceFeesYou keepEffective rate
$10.00$1.00$9.0010.0%
$25.00$2.50$22.5010.0%
$50.00$5.00$45.0010.0%
$100.00$10.00$90.0010.0%
$250.00$25.00$225.0010.0%

The flat rate makes Mercari the easiest platform to price against. Ten percent is ten percent whatever the category, so the only variable is whether the buyer pays shipping separately.

Poshmark fee calculator

Poshmark charges 2 dollars 95 on any sale under 15 dollars, and 20 percent on sales of 15 dollars and above. There are no listing fees, no subscription, and no separate payment processing charge.

Sale priceFeesYou keepEffective rate
$10.00$2.95$7.0529.5%
$25.00$5.00$20.0020.0%
$50.00$10.00$40.0020.0%
$100.00$20.00$80.0020.0%
$250.00$50.00$200.0020.0%

Poshmark is the one platform on this page that does not charge fees on shipping, only on the item price. The flat fee below 15 dollars also means a 12 dollar item loses a larger share than a 15 dollar one, which is worth knowing when you set a price near that line.

Vinted fee calculator

Vinted charges sellers nothing. No commission, no processing fee, no per-order charge. The platform earns from a buyer protection fee added at checkout instead.

Sale priceFeesYou keepEffective rate
$10.00$0.00$10.000.0%
$25.00$0.00$25.000.0%
$50.00$0.00$50.000.0%
$100.00$0.00$100.000.0%
$250.00$0.00$250.000.0%

Zero seller fees does not mean the transaction is free of fees. The buyer pays more than your sticker price, so when you compare a Vinted listing against the same item on another platform, compare what the buyer actually pays rather than the listed price.

Whatnot fee calculator

Whatnot charges an 8 percent commission on the sale price plus payment processing of 2.9 percent and 30 cents calculated on the order total. Combined, most sellers see close to 11 percent.

Sale priceFeesYou keepEffective rate
$10.00$1.39$8.6113.9%
$25.00$3.02$21.9812.1%
$50.00$5.75$44.2511.5%
$100.00$11.20$88.8011.2%
$250.00$27.55$222.4511.0%

Electronics carry a lower 5 percent commission and coins 4 percent. Because the 30 cent charge applies per order, bundling several wins from the same buyer into one shipment pays that fixed fee once rather than repeatedly, which matters a great deal at live-selling price points.

Depop fee calculator

Depop removed its selling commission for US sellers in 2024. What remains is payment processing of 3.3 percent plus 45 cents, applied to the item price plus buyer-paid shipping.

Sale priceFeesYou keepEffective rate
$10.00$0.78$9.227.8%
$25.00$1.28$23.735.1%
$50.00$2.10$47.904.2%
$100.00$3.75$96.253.8%
$250.00$8.70$241.303.5%

Boosted Listings are optional and add 12 percent when a boosted item sells, so treat that as advertising spend rather than a standing fee. The 45 cent fixed charge is the part that stings on cheap items, where it can outweigh the percentage entirely.

Facebook Marketplace fee calculator

Shipped Marketplace orders that go through Facebook checkout carry a 10 percent selling fee with a minimum of 80 cents, calculated on the total the buyer paid. Local pickup arranged outside checkout has no platform fee at all.

Sale priceFeesYou keepEffective rate
$10.00$1.00$9.0010.0%
$25.00$2.50$22.5010.0%
$50.00$5.00$45.0010.0%
$100.00$10.00$90.0010.0%
$250.00$25.00$225.0010.0%

The gap between shipped and local is the largest on this page. A 200 dollar item sold locally keeps the full 200 dollars, while the same item shipped through checkout loses 20. For furniture and other bulky goods that is usually the whole argument for selling locally.

Grailed fee calculator

Grailed charges 9 percent on sales of 120 dollars and above, or 6 percent with a 1 dollar 99 minimum below that, a tiered structure introduced in May 2026. Payment processing of 3.49 percent plus 49 cents applies on top.

Sale priceFeesYou keepEffective rate
$10.00$2.83$7.1728.3%
$25.00$3.35$21.6513.4%
$50.00$5.24$44.7710.5%
$100.00$9.98$90.0210.0%
$250.00$31.71$218.2812.7%

The tier boundary at 120 dollars is worth watching. Just below it you pay the lower percentage, but the separate processing charge means Grailed usually lands close to eBay once everything is counted.

Things the headline percentage hides

Fixed fees punish cheap items

A flat per-order charge of $0.30 to $0.49 is trivial on a $200 sale and painful on a $8 one. Depop's $0.45 is 4.5% of a $10 order before the percentage fee even applies. Bundling several cheap items into one order pays that fixed fee once instead of three times.

Most platforms charge fees on shipping

eBay, Mercari, Whatnot, Depop, Facebook and Grailed all calculate fees on the item price plus what the buyer paid for shipping. Poshmark is the exception. This is why free shipping built into a higher item price and charging shipping separately usually work out the same on those platforms.

Zero seller fees does not mean zero fees

Vinted charges buyers a protection fee instead of charging you. Your listing is genuinely fee free from your side, but the buyer pays more than the sticker price, which affects how your price compares against the same item elsewhere.

Category rates vary more than people expect

eBay ranges from about 3% on heavy equipment to 15.3% on books, with authenticated sneakers over $150 at 8% and no per-order fee. Whatnot charges 5% on electronics and 4% on coins. The calculator uses each platform's standard rate, so check your category if you sell in one of the exceptions.

Questions

Which marketplace has the lowest fees?

Vinted, because sellers pay nothing at all and the buyer covers a protection fee instead. Facebook Marketplace local pickup is also free since no platform checkout is involved. Among platforms that process a shipped sale for you, Depop is usually cheapest for US sellers, then Facebook shipped, then Whatnot. Lowest fees do not always mean most profit though, since a platform with more buyers may sell the same item for more.

Do marketplaces charge fees on shipping?

Most of them do. eBay, Mercari, Whatnot, Depop, Facebook and Grailed all include buyer-paid shipping in the amount they calculate fees on. Poshmark is the notable exception, charging only on the item price. That is why the shipping field matters in the calculator.

Why does the same sale price give such different profit?

Three things: the commission rate, whether payment processing is separate or already folded in, and the fixed per-order charges. Fixed fees hurt cheap items most. A $0.45 fixed fee is nothing on a $200 sale and is 4.5% of a $10 one.

Are these rates current?

They were checked against each platform's own fee pages in August 2026, and every source is linked in the rate table above. Fees do change, sometimes with little notice, so confirm on the platform before pricing anything where a point or two matters.

Is the item cost required?

No. Leave it blank and you still get fees and payout, which is all you need to price a listing. Fill it in and you also get net profit, margin, return on cost, and the price you would need to break even.

How much does eBay take from a $100 sale?

About $14.00 in most categories: $13.60 from the 13.6 percent final value fee plus the $0.40 per-order fee. That leaves $86.00 before your shipping label and what you paid for the item. Books would be higher at around $15.70 and guitars lower at about $7.10.

What percentage does Poshmark take?

20 percent on anything sold for $15 or more, and a flat $2.95 below that. On a $50 sale Poshmark keeps $10.00. Unlike most platforms the fee is charged on the item price alone, not on shipping.

Is it cheaper to sell on Mercari or eBay?

On fees alone Mercari is cheaper for most items, at a flat 10 percent against eBay's 13.6 percent plus a per-order fee. On a $50 sale with $5 shipping that is $5.50 against $7.88. Fees are only half the question though, since eBay's larger buyer base often sells the same item faster or for more.

Does this account for promoted listings or ads?

No. Promoted Listings on eBay, Boosted Listings on Depop and similar are optional advertising costs that vary by campaign, so treat them as a separate expense on top of what you see here.
